El Sombrero Restaurant

Tucked away on 2731 M St in Bakersfield, El Sombrero Restaurant is that kind of place you stumble into once—and then keep coming back to. It’s got that laid-back, no-fuss vibe with just enough energy in the room to make it fun for families and groups. Whether you're craving something spicy, cheesy, or just downright comforting, this casual spot has you covered.

Let’s talk about the food, because honestly, it’s the star here. People rave about the Chili Verde Enchiladas—tender pork smothered in a bold green chile sauce that packs flavor without overwhelming the senses. If you’re more of a burrito fan, the Chile Verde Burrito is massive, hearty, and hits all the right notes. And then there’s the classic Ground Beef Taco—simple, crispy, and exactly what you want it to be.

Not to be missed are the Shredded Beef Tacos. The beef is slow-cooked until it practically melts in your mouth, and it’s tucked into a shell that somehow stays crispy under all that juicy goodness. If you're into cheesy comfort, grab a Cheese Enchilada—it’s rich, gooey, and so satisfying. It’s the kind of dish that brings you back to your favorite food memories.

The atmosphere? Super chill. The noise level is moderate, so you can still hear your friends talk without yelling. It’s casual enough for a quick bite with the kids, but also roomy enough to host a group of hungry coworkers during lunch.

El Sombrero Restaurant doesn’t try to be trendy or flashy. It’s just solid Mexican food served in a space that feels welcoming, friendly, and real. Perfect for when you want something tasty without the hassle.

Visiting Bako . Moved away 38 years ago and had never been here enemies though This restaurant has been in this location for many years. Menu was very comprehensive, service was prompt and friendly. I had the Supreme Burrito with rice and beans. This was a Chili Verde Burrito served wet with rice and beans. It was delicious. The chips and in-house made salsa was good as well. The margaritas were fairly priced. This is a good family run restaurant. We went again two days later for lunch and had another very enjoyable meal. The owner Lucille and her son are very friendly and angry with each table. I would recommend this restaurant and look forward to visiting again when I'm in town.

Frequenting this restaurant for the last 30 years..chicken enchilada with green sauce, chile relleno, rice and beans!!Careful driving after consumption cause you're gonna have a strong urge to take a nap!Awesome food and service, locally owned and operated business.

A nice local mom and Pop shop. This salsa was delicious although it was a little spicy for me, but it was definitely great. The food was good just like any other Mexican restaurants in Bakersfield. Would definitely enjoy going back. The lunch hour was very busy and very Rushed by our waitress. We do live in a business area so having people come in and out was probably their main source. I would've liked to have our time in peace, but understand the business nature of this restaurant.

Great food, amazing service, and a great environment. Went during the week at noon and every table was full. Highly recommend!

I really enjoy this family owned restaurant. They are a part of Bakersfield's history. Kellie was my sweet server today. But the entire staff is spot on. No matter how busy they are the service is always good. The food is delicious and comes out quickly. They have a full bar. They have a very long standing and loyal client base. They are family friendly and happy to accommodate large groups.
